I came here because a friend recommended their spicy ricecake(dukbokki). We got here around 10:30pm on a Saturday night. I expected this place to be packed but to my suprise it was about half full. I liked the ambience of the interior. Nothing fancy but it had a high celing so it was had an open, airy feel to it. The colors of the walls were bright and friendly. The menu has a large selection of fried rices, noodles, donkatsu, soups, etc. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered their popcorn chicken. It was cheap at $5.99. I was suprised at the generous amount that came out. It was crispy though I wish it was spicier. It came with a side of a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. I expected a side of rice and salad with it but it was basically an appetizer. My wife ordered the spicy ricecake with ramen(Rabokki). It was very spicy yet flavorful. The portion wasn't as large as other places. She also ordered the ricecake skewer. It was basically 3 skeweres of 3 ricecake between 3 popcorn chicken smothered with the same dippping sauce as the popcorn chicken. It was alright. My sis in law ordered the kimchee fried rice. It was pretty spicy and flavorful. They added ricecake pieces to it to make it unique. There were only 2 side dishes, kimchee and pickled radish. Service was prompt, prices were good and overall I would recommend Jjang.

So freaking good! The ddukbokki was so good! I got the ddukbokki with ramen in it and it was quite the combo. It was really spicy, the way I like it! I also got kimbap on the side and it was really good as well. My friend got ramen and he said it was delicious! It wasn't expensive at all! I love this place, definitely gonna come back

It took 5 minutes for them to bring a menu to our table even though there were only 2 other tables. Table was dirty so I had to wipe it with napkins. We ordered rabokki(ramen noodles+dukbokki) and don katsu. Food came out pretty fast and we started eating.. Don katsu wasn't that good. Not crispy, the pork was really really thin. You can bearly taste the meat. After a few bite, I found A HAIR in my rabokki. Black, long and curly. I was shocked and my friend told the waitress and she took the dish back to the kitchen to make a new one. 15-20 minutes later, she brought us a new one but I was already grossed out so I only ate few pieces. Asked for the check and they charged us fully. I paid and was pretty much bitter since I think they should have AT LEAST apologized for such unsanitary food instead of just stuttering and taking the food back without even looking at us. Will never go back. Not worth a try.

I have never been to a restaurant with such great customer service in my entire life. I was kind of amazed tonight. My friends and I got there at 12am and they told us they were closing, but it was okay for us to eat there still. We wanted to try it since Mandoorang was closed. The waitresses were very welcoming and spoke lots of Korean to me because they thought I was Korean. (All my friends who I went with are Korean.) I was not expecting this to be any different from Mandoorang (The usual Korean restaurant I go to.) down the street, but it proved to have its own unique taste. Their menu similar to most Korean restaurants, as is the pricing. They have the usual ramen, kim chi fried rice, etc. I ordered a spicy pork bowl with rice thinking it to actually be in a bowl. I was wrong - it was on a large plate with lots of spicy pork and rice. I was completely full after eating this meal. Their side dishes are nothing special - kim chi, radishes, etc. But the food was so different than most Korean restaurants. My spicy pork bowl with rice was completely different from the ones I have usually had. This was much spicier and flavorful than what I was used to. My friends and I all enjoyed our food. I don't think this place is going to affect Mandoorang's business though because they taste so different. They might have similar menus, but the taste is so unique here. Their food isn't explosively good, but it is more than decent - I'd come again. I was very appreciative of their great customer service though. The waitress even offered us free cans of soda after our meal. I usually don't give more than 15% tip anywhere, but today I was feeling extra nice and bumped it to 20% because I was so pleased with the service. (I am usually reluctant to pay premium price for premium service but not this time.) It definitely made my night end on a higher note. :) 5 STARS for EXCELLENT SERVICE and GOOD FOOD.

Eaten here many times the food is not exceptional but pretty good - family style cuisine. However, the one star is for services....got treated like a thief here today...I guess they expected me to eat with my hand and not silverware. Never ever going to eat here again. EVER!

I recommend the tuna kimchee kimbap and the popcorn chicke.

Bomb food. I used to come here alot before I moved to a different city but the owners are really good people & the staff is friendly too. Donkatsu is reallly good.

  • Joseph C.

Their donkatsu... is amazing. Big portion... fried with cereal crumbles = better taste... Other food... not as big portion but it tasted okay. Udon is definitely a no... it tasted like frozen udon... maybe instant udon too...Seeing the udon being such a cheap-quality food, I feel that other food are all probably form Hannam market across the street... like mandoo (dumpling) being frozen food... If I crave for donkatsu... I come here that's about it...

Bachelor(ette) style Korean food in an Ikea-meets-Internet forwards venue with a very open layout. Expect clean and minimal decor with clever and amusing photos, straight out of email forwards, lining the walls. Great for groups. Typical Korean comfort food, i.e. spicy rice-cakes (ddukbokki), ramen, etc.

good thing about a place like this is that it can please everyone: it's got all the kinds of popular noodle dishes, rice dishes, soups, donkatsu and etc. OH! and they're open late! big plus! I wasn't expecting much since they have a variety of the usual korean foods and usually they're all just so-so. HOWEVER, I got the chicken katsu and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't your average chicken katsu! The breading used was corn flakes or something of that sort and they cut it up into lots of small strips--crispy, light and not oily! They also served it with a peanut sauce? not ur usual donkatsu sauce...and salad with a fruity dressing...almost tasted pineapple-y but I guess its mango? my friends ordered ddukboki- small portion and the dduk was cut into many small pieces...the jjolmyun was pretty good...and pretty spicy! my other friend also ordered bulgogi stew? it came in a pot..soupy..with glass noodles and stuff...very oily tho..

The place is clean and got hilarious pictures on the walls that made me crack up~ The food is bomb and the portion is good...I couldnt finish everything... I got the don katsu and it was tasty next time i want to try one of the cheese fried rice which my friend got and looked delicious...couldn't steal his food too much because he was sick... GO GO GO~

My friend and I somehow ended up at this place when we couldn't find the initial restaurant we wanted to eat in. The atmosphere is very cozy and friendly. I liked their menu--it was designed like a phone with apps. There were two TVs that played subbed Kdramas, and a projector that plays Kpop MVs. Literally had to stop talking to my friend just so I can watch a music video of a group I really liked, haha. The food was great! I was actually surprised at the huge serving--I ordered the pork cutlet.--and I couldn't even finish it! Everything on the plate was delicious--the cutlets, rice, sauce, corn, salad--everything! It was a bit pricey, though, it totaled to around $11, and I didn't even order a drink with it. I also liked how the staff ate at one table and chatted amongst themselves on their lunch break. It gave it a really laid-back, friendly atmosphere. I would come back here for sure. :)

I've been here a few times now and tried different dishes everytime. As they are relatively new, they continue to introduce new items- my current favorite is the gochujjigae (red chili soup). Soooo very spicy just the way I like it! Their ddukbooki, boolgogi fried rice and odeng are good too. Their fifth star is for customer service- the staff here are so nice and timely. They also open late!! Perff.

Wow. I'm sorta shocked at the other reviews for this place. First of all, this place is so unprepared. I'm pretty sure that this is the owners first attempt at a restaurant. I came with a group of 3 and had to wait 5 minutes just to get a menu. Another 5 minutes for utensils. Another 5 minutes for water. Secondly, and most importantly, the food. Lets just say 3 full grown men ordered a Kim Bap (Korean Sushi Roll) as an appetizer and could not finish it. It didn't taste bad, it just tasted like nothing. Also, we ordered two different types of noodle soups (Kal Gook Soo and Soo Je Be) and I am 100% sure they used the same broth and garnishes on both! Only difference was the type of noodles. And even though the service was pretty bad, the korean girl waitress tried really hard and was a sweetheart. I would give the place 2 stars just because of her but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Bottom line, Avoid this place. There are so many other good korean restaurants around the area so why waste your time and money on this place.

I was waiting for this place to open for a long time now. The opening was not very grand so that's why I think the place doesn't get as busy as it should. Even though business seems unfortunately slow, the quality of food and the service is great! My first visit was great first and foremost because of the friendly service. The lady who works there at night new straight up I was not Korean but she didn't treat me any different. The quality of the food is great too. I've had the spicy pork bowl, chewy noodles (#66) and the other cold bibim noodle (#65). The noodle dishes were spicy but I loved it. You could probably find these dishes anywhere in this town but the quality stands on top. Please give them your business!

I've only been here twice, and after the second time.. I don't think I'm coming back FOOD: I've tried their Dukbokki.. the sauce is too thick.. it's sweet and poorly made. The cali crunch roll tastes really bad... it tasted so dry. Their udon tasted okay though. Also the beef rice dish tasted okay too, but not that great. SERVICE: The staff are nice and kind. Overall.. the food doesn't taste good so I will not be back.

Well.. All in all I've been to this place 5-6 times.. Nothing special . Just a typical Korean restaurant.. I've never really experienced a BAD SERVICE there... maybe I coz I go in when it's not busy. anyways.. My favorite dish is the chicken+ pork katsu:) Yummy! very goood! The portion is verrrry big. i think two people can share one order. It was 7.99 for that dish. I shared with my sister so overall, I spent $10 for a meal for two. I don't think that's bad at all. When you go in, they provide you with a big jug/bottle of ice water. Cups are already stacked on the table. The utensils are also stacked inside a wooden box on top of the table next to the cups. The service was always an average when I go. I was gonna just give 3stars but the food made me give a star more:)

I loveee it here. I'm from korea and its hard to find yummy places to eat modern korean food here unless you're in LA. This places has a BROAD range of menu & in overall, everything is prett darn good. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is their katsu& dduk go chi (fried rice cakes) Price is fair, I wouldn't say great, but it sure beats the prices of some other modern korean restaurants. the staff is super friendly although most of the times, they're under staffed. Only disappointment that I have is that the portions are a bit small but all in all, LOVE ITTTT.

  • Aleyna L.

I always heard this place's food sucks. So i tried my best to stay away, but it turned out very good! I had Kal Gook Su.. and my friend had popcorn chicken and Dduck go chi. Everything was awesome, except the chicken. I expected it more fried but this one was just too soggy and thin. Service was good and everything was okay! Maybe i was just too scared to try this place out!

o-m-g i thought their fried rice was so good until I came home and was soooo THIRSTY! which means MSG overload. Not worth damaging your health.... Skip this place or don't order their chul-pan-bok-keum-bap.

I and my co-workers went there for lunch today. We had about 10 people but none of us really liked the food. I ordered the chicken and pork cutlet, it was kind of weird because they used cereal on the outside of the cutlet and the meat just tasted like cereal, I can't speak for others because I didn't taste them. But the feedback were not good either. I don't think we are going back.

taste exactly the same as my mom would make it, just a bit more salty.

  • Julian N.

The food is mostly good. Ddukbokki, kimbap, and rice dishes are all good, but the noodles (like jjolmyun and ramen) need some work. Based on food alone, I'd give 3 stars, but the service is what kicks it up another star. Whether you go for lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, or late night meal, they are always so friendly and helpful.

This was a hidden treasure for me... a treasure for my wallet, appetite, and hectic lifestyle. It's open until 12am! I recommend the chicken tongsu (I don't know how you pronounce or spell this item). Oooo well Enjoy!

I've been here about 5 times. I liked it a lot up until today. The staff is very nice but it took 20 minutes for my kimchi dolsot bahp to come out and when it did, it tasted pretty plain. I thought for some reason that there would be other vegetables besides kimchi but I guess it's only kimchi! It's also a bit overpriced for what they give you. I do really like their dduk ko chi but that's about it. I don't think I'll be going back again.

fast and great food. i always go there late at night with friends of mine. they take large parties. this place is better than man too rang which is nearby.

THis place as some really good chicken katsu. It's pretty different from Curry House but I really like it. It's basically Mandoorang which is just down the street on beach but it's more hip? But I like both, not hating on Mandoorang, that place is good too. Very similar prices and menu. I mainly like the place because its called Jjang and there's always Kpop music videos being played in the background. I like the salad dressing too. I feel so dang korean when I come here

If you want Korean comfort food, this place rocks. If you like Dduk Bokee / Topokki, this place rocks. If you like Donkatsu, it's quite nice and nicely breaded. Fried Rice with cheese or without cheese? Good stuff. Want a big menu selection to choose from? This place has it. I came here with a nice big group for some Korean street-style food (but better quality), and this place delivered much more than other places I've been to. The Topokki is spicy and sweet, with some spicy ramen, dumplings, and Soondae on the side. This is how you do it, sir. Thank you. Interior is medium to large with a casual atmosphere. A group of 2-6 should fit fine. If you are already familiar with Korean boonshik (comfort food), you likely won't be disappointed. Best Topokki I've had so far in the OC area. Better Topokki than let's say Yogi Yogi, Koko Chicken, and Jopok. It is located at a plaza, so there is plenty of parking.

Ok now I can finally give you all a proper review of this place. This is your typical korean cafe for those Koreans looking for comfort food. Their fried rice is really good and their noodle soups are good. Their pork cutlet is really nice as well. They also have clean bathrooms and fast service. Reading the other reviews I think you are all being a little nit picky. This place is a solid four stars not for any gourmet food but simply based on what they do serve. I appreciate simple food done right. I can't ask for anything more out of this place.

Jjang's ddukbokki (spicy rice cakes) is pretty damn good and is probably the star dish of the restaurant. In fact, it tastes somewhat close to the ddukbokki sold on the streets of Korea. The sauce has good balance and isn't too sweet. Good amount of fish cakes too. They have variations, like adding ramen noodles, fried dumplings, and soondae (blood sausage). I recommend the fried dumplings as they taste yummy dipped into the ddukbokki sauce. I'm not too sure about the other dishes here. I tried their kimbap which wasn't very good. My advice if you come here would be to stick to their ddukbokki dishes. It may possibly be the best ddukbokki in OC. There, I said it!

    - Locale Destination - It's on Beach blvd and Malvern Ave in Buena Park. It's in a strip shopping/restaurant plaza on the corner, right next to "Orange" (bar?!) and right by "Boba Time" (one of the worst Korean boba tea places). Ambiance: Pop & mom, casua

I recently paid $9.99 for BASIC ramen (pretty much what I cook at home in 2 minutes) at a Korean cafe, so I was impressed by their kimchi ramen here. It's about $6 and they really make the effort to jazz it up. There was fish cake, vegetables, egg... I liked it. My boyfriend got the squid bibimbap and it was a LARGE portion. Their kimchi here tastes delicious and so does their dahm-moo-jii. All the utensils are at the table so you don't need to ask the server for much. The waitress was a nice girl. Good experience. Very affordable and delicious Korean food.

boonsik style (meaning korean cafe/snack food) utensils, water, cups, and bowls are already on the table, thus minimal service. Although there was minimal service, the workers were all very nice when they came to take our order and bring the check. Upon opening the menu, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the various options of their dishes (literally there was like 15+ different ways you can get your fried rice and a lot of combos) Their menu is very colorful and has a lot of pictures, which I thought was very helpful. Food: Rabokki + kimbap combo: don't let the bright red sauce scare you in the Rabokki. There was a lot of flavor in the sauce with a great balance with spice. The rice cakes and the ramen was cooked very well, not too chewy nor overcooked :) The kimbap rolls were pretty big but nothing special about them. Kimchi Fried Rice: the portion size was HUGE! but there was nothing special about it. Odeng soup: a nice balance with all the spicy dishes we ordered The portion sizes for the items we ordered were gigantic and we had plenty of left overs. (shared among 3 people) The prices are reasonable considering the amount of food served. The food came out fast. Overall, the plethora of options is a plus and their food was good (very filling), however nothing stood out as amazing.

I am not going to lie, I've seen this restaurant many times on Yelp when I was looking for some place to eat nearby but I never even bothered to come because of their rating. I mean it's not low. It's average I guess but I was a bit scared to try myself. Saw my friend checking in to this restaurant many times and I asked her why she goes here and she responded saying this place has the best Ddukbbokki (Spicy Rice Cakes). I was like 'hmm..really?' but she said yes. So I decided to trust her words and try it. I went during dinner time and there were many customers already eating. The server sat us at the corner by the entrance and we sat there and looked through the menu. I was able to see the kitchen from where I was seating and for most part, their kitchen looked clean from what I saw. The menu was pretty amazing if you ask me. They had so much food on there. I have problem choosing and deciding on a menu so I was just looking and made my boyfriend order. As for the price goes, its not cheap but not too expensive. I guess it's average. We ordered RaDdukSoon which was Ddukbbokki with ramen noodles and soondae (korean sausage), and Bulgogi Kimbob. Shortly after we got our food. RaDduksoon was served on a very large plate. I loved their Ddukbbokki even before I ate it because of the rice cake size. I love small tiny rice cakes over long and large ones. So I was happy to see that. Everything on that plate was good. It wasnt too spicy or too sweet so I liked it. Their soondae was pretty hot but it was good and it is definitely better than Gongsugan (in Walnut/Diamond Bar area). One thing I wasnt really amazed was their Kimbob. We got Bulgogi but it didnt really tasted like the meat was seasoned right. The rolls were pretty big but they didnt roll it too good that it all just 'opened' when I grabbed it so that was very irritating. Gongsugan has better Kimbob though theirs isnt a Bulgogi Gimbob. Service was OK. Like I said since we were sitting in a corner, the girls couldnt spot us many times and we just had to wait until they came by. I tried so hard to get their attention when I saw them through the kitchen but all of them were busy looking at their smartphones so yeah. So to make things short, Ddukbbokki was worth trying but wasnt too sure about their Kimbob and their customer service. Oh, and I dont like how they have the plates and cups by every table. I know its facing down and all but I thought that was pretty unsanitary because they put a paper towel? looking thing on the bottom of the tray and placed the bowls and cups there. But on top of those paper towel, you can see some dirty looking undefined small objects there. That grossed me out. I think they should just stick to giving customers their cups, bowls/plates and silverware when they actually arrive and sit at the table rather than having everything there already for their convenience. Restroom was kept clean and parking is easy to find in this big plaza sharing with Boba Time, BBQ and others.

**My group tipped with the bill but right when we walked out, the worker ran after us and said with a Korean accent, "Why you no tip us? Our service no good?" We were so in shock so we paid the girl more and left.** The question is: how did she count the money so fast? The food was average (and I'm Korean). The chicken cutlet katsu is all shriveled up and it's smaller than the size of my hand. Also, don't waste your money on the ramen! The pot is so small...it's like 1/4 of a regular sized pot for $6+.

I'm not sure how I should rate this place because I've been here three times and I must say, there were ups and downs. The first time I came here I ordered their Ddukbokki (spicy rice cakes) + soondae (Korean sausage) combo. Their ddukbokki was ON POINT. Definitely the best ddukbokki I've had so far in OC. Soondae was just all right. The second time I came back, I didn't order their ddukbokki. I ordered cheese donkatsu and their rice cake&popcorn chicken skewer. The skewer was perfect. Sweet, sour, tangy and crispy... Mmm. but their katsu was disappointing. The batter was dry and hard, and the meat was flavorless. The cheese was not integrated as well as it should have been. The third time I visited here, I decided to back to the good ol' ddukbokki. But uh-oh, something was off this time. The sauce was a lot more watered down than the last time I was here, and as a result, the rice cakes tasted bland. :( I'm not sure if I just came on a bad day or the quality of their ddukbokki is starting to go downhill. I guess I'll give it one last chance and find out. Oh, btw, you shouldn't expect servers coming back and forth to your table like a hummingbird because this is a BOON SHIK JIP... aka super casual place for middle/high school girls in Korea to grab cheap food and chat for hours. There are cups, bowls, and utensils on the table to be self-served. It's made that way because usually the teenage girls want to be left undisturbed when they chat!! If you really need the server you can always press the bell next to your table. I just found it kind of laughable that there was a review complaining about how everything is self-served... Clearly that person does not know what a boon shik jip is.

This place serves up some pretty good korean comfort food in a clean and casual setting. Although nothing on the menu will likely blow you away, the food here has a certain homemade quality that I like. We came here for the spicy seafood jjampong but ended up ordering a bunch of other things on the side. The jjampong is pretty huge and loaded with a good mix of seafood. The noodles were handmade and the broth was spicy and refreshing. A really good choice if you're looking to nurse a hangover. The popcorn chicken was really tasty too and makes for a perfect little snack. We also ordered some tuna kimchi kimbap and some fried mandoo, both of which were quite average. The menu here is really big, so I can understand that not everything can be a hit. But that's also the reason why I like boonshik restaurants, because you can order something different every time. The interior is pretty comfortable and they even have two large tvs on each side. We ended up watching the world cup finals here and it turned out to be a great spot to catch a game. The only thing I didn't like, was watching the game with a bunch of Korean fobs. There's no need to scream every time they get even remotely close to the goal. Just sayin.

I am pretty impressed with Jjang. First off, their menu is really impressive for a boonsik joint. They have dukbokgi w. multiple variations like adding on ramen, mandoo, soondae... etc. And they have multiple variations of their kimbap like tuna kimbap, spicy tuna kimbap, spicy cheese tuna kimbap... etc And they have alot of different korean items on their menu including different types of fried rice, soups, noodles, etc... What I really liked about Jjang was that their food really did taste like the boonsik food in Korea (although Korea is better of course)... We got their dukbokgi and the sauce totally reminded us of dukbokgi in Korea... on the sweet side and yet spicy... We also go their spicy tuna kimbap. The kimbap was good but alittle on the dry side. But I was impressed that they had alot of different types of kimbap like korea instead of your standard beef kimbap or odeng (fishcake), like the kimbap you see in korean supermarkets. We also got an order of odeng gook (fishcake soup) and it was totally like korea where the fishcake is overcooked because it stays in the soup for hours. Overall, I really enjoyed Jjang and will definitely be back! :)

This place has really good food! I went there couple days ago and the food was great! I've been here couple times and have ordered different items on the menu! This place reminds me of the street foods in Korea that are really famous and eaten a lot! The food is really well made and it hits the right spots on your taste buds! The servers are really nice and welcoming! My server, Hyeon, was very friendly and she told me what was good on the menu when I had trouble choosing and it ended up tasting great! I highly recommend this place as a meal or even a snack!

I tried everything except the donkatsu. +Their cheese fried rice ($11.95) is so good! Any of the fried rice is good (1 plate enough for 2 people, unless that's the only thing you're eating). +Their fried dumplings are good. +Soondae is alright, but there's not really too many other soondae houses here (except the new one that might be opening up soon in the same plaza). -I personally like the ddukbokki from mandoorang better. They offer combinations of the various items. Price and tip will generally end up around $25 total for 2 people. They got two tv's. A number of funny pictures along the wall. Suitable for groups. Environment isn't too loud so able to carry conversations inside. Open late. I would give it a 5-star if the price would drop $1-2 for the fried rice.

Love the ddukboki here reminds me of Korea!!! Also HUGE portions so good for big parties!! Also love their seafood fried rice tastes so good and different than a normal fried rice!! One of the best boonshik places in Buena Park. Highly recommend!!

They actually serve really good and cheap food. This is my second time here in the past.. year. (Too many restaurants to explore!) Last time, I had shrimp fried rice with cheese and my friend had one of the ramen and odeng. This time, we shared dukbokki+ramen+gyoza, along with fried roll with spicy squid. I'm not too familiar with how Korean food is supposed to be, so this is purely opinion. The squid is cold and hard. Wasn't what I expected. The dukbokki dish was delish. Their service is good too, fast and friendly. Only thing that bothers me, the fly infestation.. And this was the 3rd restaurant I went to that week that had flies. (They were all Korean) I hate hate HATE flies surrounding food that I pay for LOL. Go away! Four giant flies landed in the spicy squid and several kept attacking my plate and water cup. Ew... I'll eventually come back, cuz the food does justify their fly issues.

Hands-down this has now become my favorite spot for boonsik (Korean dishes like ddukbokki, gimbap, o-dang, etc.) They have a wide variety of dishes - all at an affordable cost, large portions, and great taste! Their ddukbokki was so delicious! Even better than any spot I've been to in LA Koreatown.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Now, you might be thinking why I gave it three stars despite the fact that I just said i love this place. To explain, i might as well rephrase by saying that i love the FOOD. Great portions, great quality, and you might say MSG infested, but as long as it doesnt give me a headache and i can enjoy the food IDGAF. However, there are definitely some changes that can be made here. I sat down at a table by the wall towards the back of the restaurant and each table was set up with napkins, utensils, salt and pepper, hot sauce, cups, and small bowls. It's everything that customers usually ask servers for on the side. But that made me really think: does the restaurant REALLY not want their servers to work and go back and forth for customers so they can just take orders and give food? I can imagine that take out orders might be a big thing here, but although the restaurant was big, there weren't many seats. There were big spaces between tables. Even if it does get full, it won't be too hectic. Therefore, our contact with our servers was minimal. I left minimal tip to be honest, and the guy server in the glasses smelled of cologne. Ugh, dude are you serious. So unprofessional to reek of cologne when you're serving food. They gave me hot water in a plastic cup too. I would prefer ceramic but i just drank it anyway. So i can say service was just whatever. I had no problems but i can see that servers here are literally just SEVERS. I want to end this review on a good note though: the changes to be made are apparent, but i can tell this place is doing well because their food and portions are great. The Ddukbokki was incredible. I added ramen noodles in mine and it was just perfect. I love it when the rice cakes are small and bite sized and there was a generous amount of fish cake too. The dduk gook was not the best i've ever had. I've had better in Old Time Noodle House in Gardena, but i get that boon sik (something similar to street food in S Korea such as kim bap, soon dae, ddukbokki) is their specialty and not traditional korean food. However their kimchi fried rice with cheese was just... just... heaven on earth. I would think they'd be lazy and put a slice of cheese on top and that wouldve been okay too to be honest but the cheese was inside the dish with it just stretching with each spoonful I took out. Sooo delicious. Such a good combination. My boyfriend thought it needed a little more spice and ate it with some ddukbokki broth. My friend says soon dae is not their specialty and she said she had one bite and could not eat the rest. Weird but I haven't tried it myself. I loved the food, so i will come back. I genuinely wish for this place to make some changes and instill a bigger sense of professionalism in their servers. Meanwhile, 3 stars.

When I'm craving some korean fast food I come here! The food is always so yummy and service is always so fast! It is a bit pricey ($$), but food always taste great! I recommend Raboki (ramen mixed with docboki), nengmyeon (cold noodle) and fried calamari! Perfect place to eat when craving korean food on a cold night!

This is my first time reviewing a restaurant. I normally don't say anything even if the food is mediocre but this time I really feel the need to. The owner is extremely rude! I think this is a family business so when the owner was being rude, the kids started being rude as well over a small matter that could've been easily solved! I'm never going back again.

Thank goodness for Jjang! I absolutely adore this place because they have really good boonsik and it really hits the spot when you want those Korean street eats type of food. I've tried an assortment of their menu items and for the most part it's pretty much a hit each time. My faves include the kun man doo, chamchi (tuna) kimbap, sundae, ddukbokki, kimchi ramen, odeng and donkasu. I was really surprised that even their sundae guk (soup) was so good...it had a creamy taste to it which is so different from other places I've had. I personally like the condiments, plates, cups, water and silverware all at your disposal on your table so you never have to flag down anyone to bring you those items. The service is always good with a pleasant staff. The tables are set not too close together so you have some space and the big tvs help you pass the time if you're eating by yourself or with friends. I like this place a whole lot more than Man Doo Rang across the way. The only thing I didn't really like on the menu was the fried shrimp but pretty much everything else is much on point. Currently they're building something next door I think so it's kinda noisy if you go during day time but hope they'll be done soon.

If your heath conscious, this place is definitely not for you. But for the occasional sinners, like once annually, you need to try this place. This place is really good in terms of Korean food with a lot of MSG and added flavoring. Love their fried rice! Yummy! Not for the health conscious for sure. Thicken your arteries and make it even worse with more cholesterol by adding additional features like a whole cup of mozzarella cheese in your fried rice. Perhaps if rice is not your thing, you can try their super spicy Korean rice cake dish guaranteed to almost make you call the fire department for help. Out on a hot date but don't have the funds to a nice Japanese restaurant for sushi? Then you need to bring your hot date here and order the "Kim-Bop" Combo. You select 1 Kim-Bop and another featured dish. She will never know it's not sushi because most Americans consider anything wrapped in dry seaweed wrap as sushi. This is Korean style very similar to the Japanese sushi just without the raw fish. Instead, you get Oh-Dang!..yup that's the literal name for fish cakes which is inside. Best of all, the Combo's come with unlimited water refills. To top everything off, finish the meals with Dahn-Moo-Ji (The correct Term) or Dah Kkwang (most younger Koreans refers it to this name)! It looks yellow but it is basically marinated pickled radish. The next day, you are sure to have BTS! - Guaranteed! (Burning Ttonggo Sensation - Ask a Korean what this means) But hey, this place has really tasty foods. It is just unfortunate they add in so much MSG and flavoring.

Its always nice to find a place that serves Korean comfort food. Portions are super large. Come to this place with the intention of sharing or taking your food home for another meal later. We ordered fried rice and ddukboki. it is so tasty! My friend and I were seated in the corner of this restaurant and we didn't have a problem getting good service. Server were friendly. The prices are very reasonable for the portions you receive. Bill came out to $30 and we left stuffed like thanksgiving turkeys with take home bags. I will be returning to this place most definitely!

CHEAP AND TASTY!! That's really all you need to know! Came here with a few friends via recommendation from a Korean friend! They've got that spicy sauce that is good with everything! We got the pork blood sausage (when you eat it, it kind of feels like chewing on rice) and rice cake in the sauce and it was amazingly good! I don't always eat pork blood, but when I do...it's in sausage form!!! We also got some ramen (straight from the package) in the same delicious sauce. The tonkatsu was fried quite nicely and didn't leave me feeling super heavy. Another dish we tried were the dumplings. Probably the weakest of all of what we had, but still good. This place isn't expensive, but your bill can add up if you're like me and want to try EVERYTHING! Question: Was I supposed to put on any of the hats they have randomly at the front of the restaurant? No, they weren't your plain baseball style hats. They were viking hats, a Papa Smurf mask, and other crazy shit!

I korean, 'jjang' means 'the best'. Indeed, this place is jjang, in terms of putting lots of msg and sodiumso that your tastebuds will have orgasm. In fact, i had an orgasmic night after dining here, having fever and thirst for water constantly. In the morning, fo sho i gained some myxedema on my face and hoorah, i turned into a damn yoda overnight. They also mastered on how to use cheapest and shittiest ingredients that are scumback quality in nutrition. For example, i ordered 'mixed iron skillet fried rice' for $13.99 and the vegetables they used seemed like freaking canned carrots and peas, the beef used was grounded beef that you can buy for the cheapest cost and freeze for a long time. But gosh i must admit that they make it so tasty!

I honestly had low expectations going into jjang restaurant. However, my expectation was flipped over as I browsed through their menu. They have so many mouth watering and creative menus! My fried rice and ddukbokki tasted really good too! However, one downside was that the price for both ddukbokki and fried rice was pretty high for a boonshikjib. overall, the food was really good so I will definetly be making a trip back here soon.

Good foods at decent prices but they're honestly made out of cheapass low quality ingredients that you can actually smell oils from the food. The foods still taste ok. They give you SO MUCH fried rice at a good price so if you're craving on fried rice or if you are rice monster i recommend this place if not then go home and sleep

Korean street-style food. BIG portion size. Inexpensive. Quick and simple service. Partially self-service. Friendly staff. More noodle dishes on the menu than expected.

Not so terrible! Apparently Buena Park is where all of the Korean stuff is now so we came here to try some of it! The best dish was the kimchi fried rice (extra spicy). Oh man!!! Definitely one of the best fried rice dishes I've had in a restaurant. They give you the bit of crispy, over-fried rice on your dish, too. Mmmmm The ddukboki was super sweet. Not a traditional flavor, but it was good in its own right. Kind of like a movie based on a book: if you compare the movie to the book, it's totally not accurate, but if you had never read the book, the movie was super entertaining! Like that. We got the kim bap + ddukboki combo. The kim bap was ok. Probably wouldn't get it again. It was definitely bland compared to all of the other spicy flavors. Popcorn chicken + rice cake was interesting...never had that flavor before. It was a good balancing sweet flavor compared to the spicyyyy. Don't know if I'd get it again? Pro: it was so cheap if you eat family style. Share the dishes and you'll pay like $10 pp :D It's hard to find. Just look behind the 76 gas station!

This place is a solid 3 stars. The service is ok and the food is ok and fast service. My personal favorite is tuna kimbap. Some dishes I think it should be better considering it's a boonsik restaurant (aka korean fast food). Items like dukbokki, udon and fish cake soup are very average and nothing special about them. Whoever the owner is, I do like to give them props for his or her humor. Love the funny pics that surrounds the restaurant. It's definitely a quick bite kind if a place and don't expect anything spectacular. Very average local korean fast food.

Jjang is my go to for a quick korean meal fix. Given the prices, the food tastes really good, and I would personally recommend the kimbap varieties as well as their donkatsu. But, overall, everything on the menu is pretty good. However, I normally get their food to go, since I don't really like eating in. Nothing bad about the place, but I don't really like the decor of it, nor eating there...gotta look through my subconscious for the reason why haha.

Pretty good miso soup and amazing korean sausages. Their kimbap was pretty disappointing though. The rice was hard and seems like it has been left out for awhile.

If you expect REAL Korean Bunsik(street food), this place may not live up to your expectations. However, this place is by far the best Korean Bunsik restaurant I had since I moved to the States. Whenever I visit LA, I make sure to stop by this place at least once. I always get the Bulgogi Kimbap. Because they make it right before serving it, it's warm and fresh. I've also tried the Soon-dae(Pork sausage), but I didn't like it much. The taste was different than the ones I had in Korea. I like their Spicy Rice Cake as well. It's not too spicy but still has the authentic taste.

Cheap, fresh food in a hurry! Strolled on through with some friends while on a break from class. This was my first visit here, and I'll surely be back for more. Service: Quick, attentive and homely service here! Food: There's tons of stuff on the menu from a dozen versions of fried rice to ramen, stews, korean rice cakes and sausages. The list goes on and on but from what I can tell, everything's done fairly wall. Prices are on point, too. Most of the menu is under $10. Curry fried rice with cheese: Flavor explosion! Cheese? Yes, please! Combination fried rice: A classic, but with cheese? Yes! Please! haha. Hand it to the Koreans to take something of a comfort food and manage to squeeze in a bit more comfort! Hot Stone Bimbim Bap: Another classic (Korean) dish. Came out piping hot with a bottle of gochujang on the side. I ordered the vegetable version because I was trying to avoid food coma for the second half of my day and it was delicious. Plenty of veggies, not overcooked until they were mush. Plenty of bite for a satisfying vegetarian meal. PRO TIP: When it gets to your table... LEAVE IT BE! I love to wait for the crispy crust to form on the bottom of the stone pot. Also, complimentary soup at the beginning of your meal. We finished all of ours and they brought us so much more in a huge container! Its so flavorful and seemingly endless! This place isn't the best of the best, but it's definitely not bad! Perfect for a situation like mine where we were looking for bargain eats, without sacrificing much quality and had time limitation. Everything made fresh to order. I'll likely be back for some late night grub after some drinks! 5* stars for fitting the bill and filling the niche.

A mom and pop restaurant that make you feel like you're at home! I come here a lot for my Korean fix and they are always on point with their ddukboki! Also try the donkatsu, they use a special coating which is different from most restaurants and its really crunchy and tasty!! Also their kimchi fried rice is to die for! Really takes me back to Korea! Definitely will be back for more!

Not so bad, not so good. If you go to this restaurant when you feel starving, you will be satisfied with food here. I think kimbab is the best. They put much sesame oil on the top of it and the taste is so good.

HANKOOK BOONSHEEK ==== KOREAN COMFORT FOOD Face it. Ramen ALWAYS tastes better when someone makes it for you. And that's the case here folks. Ramen + bulgogi kimbab was just alright but it sure beats eating a combo meal at your local burger joint. It sure tasted like the delish Nong Shim Stuff =) Jjolmyun was ok.. It was spicy tangy and topped with cabbage, carrots, and some bean sprout. Next time I would order more noodles. Something was lacking.. I liked the fried mandoo best. It was both crispy and chewy, portion was generous and the filling with very leeky & porky! The layout of Jjang had a great feng shui about it. The kitchen is very open with glass counters so you can see everything while they are cooking. Let me tell you, the ddukbokki was cooked in a huge cooker, just like the ones that are sold on the streets in Korea. The menu is almost overwhelming.... You will find almost anything you are craving. Ahhhh..... Another place that would fit in perfectly in my perfect neighborhood =P

Another Korean restaurant on Beach Blvd. What else is new? I never knew this place existed until other people were mentioning it. A bad way of letting people not notice a business (esp. while driving) is having the same or really similar sign colors as the billiards place right next door which is probably why I never noticed it. The place looks new, a lot of colors, weird American pictures on the walls, a lot of menu items of Korean food, etc. Ordered 1. Spicy rice cake - It was tasty, but portion was small. Came with the standard pieces of tempera. The rice cakes were cut into smaller pieces than other Korean restaurants that offer the same dish. 2. Spicy Pork - Marinated slices of pork served with rice and salad. It wasn't all that great. 3. Tuna Rice Rolls aka Tuna KIM BAP in Korean - 13 thin slices with tuna, kimchi, and cheese. Great flavor. A great option if a roll fan. 4. Regular Rice Roll aka just KIM BAP in Korean - 13 slices with sausages, sliced vegetables. When I come here again, I would get the spicy rice cake and tuna rice rolls. The rest of the dishes were average. It's worth checking out once to see if you like the food. But I'm sure it's direct competitor is across the street...MANDOO RANG, DUMPLING HOUSE which is near Jack in the Box and US Bank. Sort of like Pho House vs Pho 21. Grand Total for take out was $29.05 with tax.

Chicken / pork katsu is cheap for the amount of food you get. Comes with delicious dressing on a salad. I always have leftovers and it ends up being a second meal. I like that they don't deep fry it, but it seems like they pan dry with cornflakes or something. Entrees come with free miso soup :)

When I get lazy to cook at home, I come here. They have simple, home-like Korean dishes. Their cheese kimchi fried rice, kimbab, and dukgooks are really good. Other things I've tried are okay (like katsu and rice dishes). Korean food is easy to make but there are a lot of ingredients to prepare correctly. Therefore, the food is overpriced compared to what it would cost making it at home. But, you do pay for the convenience. I like the wallpapers around the restaurant. It is comical. There is usually one or two workers, and they are really kind and attentive. You get free udon soup broth and side dishes also. There are certain items they stop making after a certain time, so make sure to call ahead for certain orders.

"If you don't eat anything, how will you write your Yelp review?" I just finished eating tacos with friends in Venice and had no intention of eating again. But when someone puts food in front of me, I usually eat. Of course, when I realized he intentionally did not order meat because of me, I felt obligated to eat. My date ordered something light-- a combo of rolls (kim bap) with two skewers of fried fish cake in broth. It came with small plates of kim chee and yellow pickled radishes. The food was fine, nothing out of the ordinary but also nothing memorable. Perhaps I need to come back here once I resume my meat-eating ways so I can explore the menu uninhibited. This place is open late which is why we ended up here. There are TVs, a collage of colored photos from what looks like Korean TV plastered on the walls, and tons of unexplained photobooth-esque looking props near the entrance. If someone can explain this, please let me know.

For a place that's open considerably late and is more so known for their side dishes versus main dishes, I'd have to say the one dish I do enjoy the most is probably their hybrid spicy, cheese, beef friend rice... Can honestly say I catch myself eating that at the very least once a month, which I suppose is unhealthy but nonetheless got damn delicious. Great place to go if you have a group of friends that wouldn't mind sharing or splitting the dishes family style so that one can broaden his or her pallet . They even take phone orders and are usually pretty quick to get your order out and in less than 15 minutes later your order should be ready by the time you get there, luckily for me I live close, which I suppose that is a bad thing as well... Anyways try this place, I'm almost positive you won't regret it, pretty sure...

Upon entering Jjang Restaurant, it had a very causal setting right from the get go. Along with two TVs playing Korean dramas, they had projected on a wall a bunch of popular K-pop music videos from Brown Eyed Girls "Sixth Sense" to Big Bang's "Fantastic Baby." Pretty much they were a lot more mainstream than what Coffee Code plays :p As for the food, we both ordered the ramen with rice cake. It was a lot spicier than I am normally use to in terms of ramen. It probably has to do with the fact that it had hints of the sauce that is normally put on kim chi. Either way, it was quite delicious and dirt cheap at that (at least the ramen was... the other menu items varied in price). The total came out to about $11 or so. We plan to go back and try the many other Korean comfort foods that called our names. In time Brian... in time.

  • Sarah K.

The area was nice and clean. There's a projected screen of k-pop. Definitely can be distracting if you wanted a place to talk. The udong was average and the tofu bibimbap in hot pot was not so good. I like bland taste, but it was way too bland. I had to add additional flavoring, which I felt it ruined the food. Just not ordering that specific item again.

i often go here for takeout.. food portions are not little.. a pretty good amount.. prices are alright as well.. service was okay too.. reason for only 3 stars is everything seemed to be mediocre.. its a nice casual place to take your kids to for a casual lunch/dinner

CHEAP, DELICIOUS, AND THE CLOSEST THING TO STREET FOOD IN KOREA YOU CAN GET HERE. My boyfriend and I totally pigged out... we got ddukbokki, dumplings, fish cake soup, and the spicy squid kimbap for the two of us. Everything was delicious... everything. The spicy squid could have been spicier... The atmosphere here has loud kpop music, making it a good place to come with friends and drink. I'm guessing they even have karaoke because they had props set up on a table O__O Kinda far from Irvine, but I'll definitely stop by the next time I go to Disneyland!

I must say not bad..... My friends and I ordered the spicy pork bowl, cheese/chicken Katsu, and cheese spicy rice cake dish. Unfortunately, I was way too stuffed to eat the rice cake; there, I can't really say how good or bad it is... My friends loved their Katsu and its sauce... It came with corn, salad and rice. Pretty good portion to share! (4.5/5) Spicy pork bowl was pretty good and spicy... One down side: not enough pork... :( (3/5) Another good thing about this place is their long hours. My friends and I were looking for a place to eat around 10:30p and our options were pretty limited.. (4.5/5)

I would say jjang has almost exactly same menu compare to man doo rang! :) i like their ddukbokgi + kimbob combo! Which has big porition and really good! I also like their dduk mandoo soup! Only bad thing is the table we were seating at was kinda sticky for some reason. But Overall, good food & good service! :)

Mr. P, GMIT, and I came here Christmas Day. I've brought GMIT here for udon before. But while she was away at college, I brought Mr. P here for udon and chicken cutlets. The chicken cutlets (katsu) are breaded with a flaky topping, and served with rice, corn slaw, cabbage salad, and a tangy-sweet dipping sauce. The udon broth is sublime, the noodles tender and tasty. Really good stuff. So, for Christmas, I brought Mr. P and a slightly-miffed GMIT (how dare I go to Jjang without her???) for an excellent Korean meal. This time I had the ramen with dumplings. Mr. P had the chicken and pork cutlets. GMIT had the udon. The ramen was seriously spicy. I felt the burn from the back of the tongue to way down my throat. It was GOOD!!! I loved the flavor of the broth. Spicy-hot, yet flavorful. The dumplings were garlicky and meaty. Service is super-friendly and excellent. I always feel well-taken-care-of when I come here. Several screens show Korean TV programs, but this time, they also were projecting K-Pop videos onto a blank space of wall. I was mesmerized while GMIT begged me not to get hooked on K-Pop. XD Jjang also had a Christmas photo booth set up, with hats and other props. Much holiday fun to be had. Definitely will be coming here again and again.

I had a great time with my family at this place a month ago. We ordered three different dishes to share and able to eat more of different kind of food to try. It was so good that we ate all of it. I'm glad that they have this kind of food in my area. It feels like Korea street food but paying more. Anyway I'm planning to go visit them again soon.

Jjang is a "boon shik" korean restaurant. It means casual korean food and usually means variety. mandoorang is another example of a boon shik restaurant. The Donkatsu (pork katsu) comes crusted with a oatmeal cereal, salad with mango dressing, and a peanut flavored sauce. I thought this was a creative take on an old classic. It was solid except for the peanut sauce. It didn't match the flavor of the meat. Ddukbokgi was solid. Not alot of stuff in it, but plain ddukbokgi is the true test. Is it hot? is the rice cake chewy but slightly firm? how is the udon soup that comes with it? I've had some uber ddukbokgi. This was a solid 7.5-8/10. If anyone has any recs near here that are better, I'll try it out. The Tuna + Kimchi Roll (kimbap) was also good. What you would expect. I wasn't a big fan of the fried rice or the odeng (fish cake) on a stick. This restaurant may feel like bit of a project, but I like places like this. They do things differently. Someone was trying to get creative with the katsu and I like seeing stuff like that. If they can get the sauce right, it's a great combo and a great mix-up from local fav Yoko. All in all, i will be making a return. ^__^ (asian smile). Service was good as well. It wasn't busy, but they were on top of it.

This is a fairly typical Korean restaurant, a la Mandurang. I've had the udon + kimbap combo, and the jjolmyun. 1. The jjolmyun was beyond disappointment. They put soybean sprouts in the dish, wtf?! Soybean sprouts are cheap, which is why I'm assuming they put them in, but wtf, have they even tried the dish? The sprouts make the jjolmyun strangely bitter, and honestly just ruins the entire dish. The sauce was subpar as well. I was really disappointed at the jjolmyun, which isn't even cheap. 2. The udon and kimbap were both good, nothing to complain about. I'm pretty sure the udon was made from a package, whatever. It's not like I didn't expect it. At least it tasted okay. The kimbap was pretty good, most likely homemade (or store made?). Way better than packages kimbaps from super markets. The kimbap has smoked ham in it, which I can't eat, so I just took those out and ate it without haha :) The servers were nice, nothing to complain about. It took a little longer than I thought it should to bring out our food, since we were the only one in the restaurant, but I wasn't in a hurry. The ambiance is pretty nice, it's a new establishment so things look new. The prices were pretty fair, at least on par with Mandurang's if not a bit cheaper. I might go here again, probably take-out, if I'm craving some typical Korean food, since it's really close by. But it's not something I would seek out if I was further. And really really disappointed about the jjolmyun!
